Designing the barbecue corner appropriately

The barbecue corner can look very different. It is important to take your own circumstances into account: either the barbecue corner is set up on an existing terrace or a part of the garden is converted specifically for it. Suitable furniture, such as the Kees Smit garden furniture , a barbecue, the right lighting and, ideally, the area is slightly separated from the rest of the garden.

At the same time, you should make sure that the grill corner fits in well with the garden and does not stand out. The area can also be equipped with additional functions: you can protect yourself from the weather with a roof, and additional storage space or sinks turn the grill corner into a real outdoor kitchen.

A good place to sit

Every barbecue corner needs a suitable place to sit. You can either go for comfort in the form of a lounge or choose a garden table with matching chairs so that you can eat properly. Of course, both options can also be combined. With a privacy screen made of plants or a sun sail, you can separate the area a little from the rest of the garden and have it all to yourself. Make it really comfortable in the corner with cushions or blankets so that the evening can last a little longer without it getting cold. With the right garden furniture, you can create a great atmosphere.

Which garden furniture is suitable?

To find the right garden furniture for the BBQ corner, you first need to assess the space available. The furniture should never be crowded together so that it can be shown off to its full potential. It is also much more comfortable if you and your guests can move freely in this area. Adapt the garden furniture to the number of people and consider whether the garden furniture should be adjustable.

The more time you spend there, the more you should be able to customize the furniture. Also plan storage space for things like cushions or blankets. It is best if the furniture can be left outside in the winter and does not require too much maintenance. For the summer, you can add a suitable sunshade.

The right location

The location depends primarily on the type of grill. It is either permanently installed or can be moved around. Consider the location from your neighbor's perspective: smoke and constant noise could bother them. By cleverly positioning the grill, the smoke can be kept away from the neighbor's property and the noise can be reduced somewhat, for example by putting up a privacy screen.

Also make sure that the grill is far away from walls to avoid soot stains. You should also consider the fire hazard: parasols or plants should not be near the grill. At the same time, however, the grill should not be too far away from the guests so that the food does not have to travel too far.

laying the floor

If you are not creating the barbecue area on an existing terrace, it is advisable to lay a suitable floor. Ideally, the flooring is fireproof and therefore not made of wood. However, it is sufficient if a small area around the grill is covered with fireproof material. The flooring does not have to be particularly elaborate; it is sufficient if the area is covered with gravel, for example. Otherwise, small wooden terraces look particularly elegant and high-quality. However, you can also dig out a little lawn and cover the area with stone slabs.

Is a roof worthwhile?

A roof protects the area from the weather. You can also grill in the rain and in winter . Various types of roofs are suitable for this. If the grill area is built against an existing wall, a wooden roof made up of two posts is sufficient.

The roof can be connected directly to the wall. Models with variable side walls that protect against wind are recommended. Free-standing roofs are available in both wood and aluminum. These roofs should definitely have a concrete foundation to ensure they stand securely.

The right lighting

To make sure the barbecue evening is really cozy and doesn't end too early, it's worth having good lighting. For example, you can attach fairy lights to a roof. But solar lights in the ground, recessed spotlights or table lamps also look nice. You should light the area around the barbecue particularly well so that you can still barbecue in the dark.

Which grill should it be?

The grill should primarily suit your own requirements . Ask yourself how often you grill and how many people you grill with. Based on this, you can determine the right size. You also have the choice between a charcoal or gas grill, which has now become a real question of faith. There are also electric grills, but these require a power connection. Charcoal is particularly convincing due to the original way of preparing food and a very special grilled taste.

When grilling with charcoal, you don't necessarily have to grill openly; with a kettle grill, you can even use indirect heat. However, charcoal needs a lot of lead time until it is glowing through. In addition, you have to keep adding more coal during a long barbecue evening. The gas grill, on the other hand, starts immediately and lasts until the gas cartridge is used up. In addition, there is hardly any dirt and significantly less smoke. The temperature is constant and can be optimally adjusted. Professional grillers in particular like to use the gas version.

An electric grill is particularly flexible: you can use it not only outside, but also take it inside if you want. However, this requires a power socket, which is not necessarily available in every grill corner. In addition, most electric grills are limited in size and not necessarily suitable for large barbecue evenings. They take a relatively long time to reach a certain heat, which, however, does not come close to comparable charcoal or gas variants.
