Freyberger wins world championship title at BBQ World Championship

Stuttgart. The 2024 Grill and BBQ World Championship will take place on the last weekend in July at the exhibition center. It is the largest Grill World Championship in the history of the competition. Over 100 teams from different continents of the world take part in the championship and fight for the title of BBQ World Champion. In total, the teams must present six courses in different categories to the jury. These include: chicken, pork, beef , fish and a vegetarian option. The organizers put together a special basket of dishes for the participants as an exclusive basis. 

The Freyberger butcher shop is competing as Freybergers BBQ. Also present: World Champion Butcher Dirk Freyberger and Butcher Wars Germany winner Pascal Karatay. Together with Frank Heller and Markus Rheindt, they will face BBQ enthusiasts from all over the world and win the title of " Beef with Side Dish World Champion".

Nuremberg in title madness

The Freyberger butcher's shop has brought a number of titles to Nuremberg in recent years. These include: Butcher World Champion 2022 , Bratwurst King 2023 and 2024 , victory at Butcher Wars Germany and now the world's best beef . "I just want to keep getting better and to do that you have to take risks," reveals the world champion. No wonder. The Franconian is taking part in this world championship for the first time and immediately grabs a title. "We came 7th in the overall ranking," he reveals. Now the team must really keep going, reflects the team captain. Because: "The goal is and remains overall victory," he adds.

Freyberger and Heller have beef

"The training was very hard and extremely intensive," Freyberger replies. The team met together several weeks beforehand and worked on their recipes every week. But beef in particular is a personal hobbyhorse for the duo. Frank is the former head of the BA Beef Club in Nuremberg and Freyberger, as a world champion butcher, is a true specialist in the subject. "All the preparation was worth it and I am incredibly proud of the team," says Dirk.

This is not the first time that Freyberger and Heller have fought side by side. In 2020, they grilled together for the award at the Hotspot competition in Nuremberg of the German Barbecue Association (GBA) and took first place. "When we took home the victory back then, it was clear to me that I would only achieve success together with Frank once more," reveals the world butcher champion.

A team sport like no other

"In this competition, everyone has to fulfil their role perfectly," says the meat sommelier. Each team member has special functions and together the grillers have to present fine cuisine to the jury in the shortest possible time and under enormous stress. "We are cogs in a wheel that meshes with each other," says the butcher. You have to be able to rely on each other, otherwise there is no point in taking part, he adds.

Freyberger is now resting for a while, but there is no time to relax. "The Butchers' World Championship is coming up and we are already in the middle of training for the next world championship title," Dirk announces.
