EM bratwurst in black, red and gold
On the occasion of the European Championship in Germany, Bratwurst King Dirk Freyberger is once again working on something new in his workshop. Due to the success of the Franconian Bratwurst Summit 2024 and the growing popularity of his creative bratwursts, Freyberger is developing the European Championship bratwurst in the colors of the German national flag.
Review. The Freyberger butcher's shop won the title of Bratwurst King in 2023. They won gold three times in the competition categories of the Franconian Bratwurst Summit in Pegnitz, beating out the other participants. This year the butchers defended the title and the bratwurst sausages took second place and the audience award. With this result, the butcher's shop achieved the highest overall score and retained the crown.
Master butcher wants to cheer
All of Germany is in football fever. The European Championship will soon start in Germany for the second time and the opening match is on June 14, 2024. Germany will play against Scotland and kick off the championship at 9 p.m. The competition takes place every four years, most recently in 2021 due to the corona pandemic. The current defending champion is Italy.
The country beat England 4-3 on penalties to win the European Cup for the second time. Currently, only Germany and Spain have won the title more often. Both have achieved three European Cup victories.
"We want to cheer on the German team in butcher style," explains world champion butcher and bratwurst king Dirk Freyberger. That's why he's creating a European Championship bratwurst in the style of the national team, the butcher adds.
For this reason, the European Championship bratwurst also bears the colors of the German national flag. "The colors simply had to be included in the bratwurst and in Franconia we have the advantage that our craftsmanship, especially when it comes to sausages, is very varied," Freyberger replies.
Black, red and gold as bratwurst
Typically for a Franconian bratwurst, it is made of pork and is filled in a strip. The sausage is piquant and has a slight spiciness in the finish. The national colors come from black pepper, black sesame, turmeric and Peppadew.
"We will soon be making recipe videos available with this bratwurst," says Dirk. This bratwurst is versatile; both finger food and hearty dishes can be prepared very easily," he adds.
The EM Bratwurst is available both in the online shop for nationwide delivery from the Freyberger butcher's shop and in the branches . It thus joins the EM Burger Kit . The EM burger is also in black, red and gold and stands out with its special composition: a black bun, a strawberry-chili-sparkling wine chutney, cheddar, bacon and a 180g beef patty.
The title is secondary
"I know what it's like to compete for the country, so we have to keep our fingers crossed together," says the Bratwurst King. Freyberger is the current world champion in the butcher's trade .
"I really hope that we win the fourth European Cup. But if it doesn't happen, that's fine too," says Dirk. There is enormous pressure on the team. The home advantage is both a blessing and a curse, adds the master butcher. "The only important thing is that you do your best. A good game is worth much more than a title," confirms the meat sommelier.
